Description
Zaviya is the written form of Ashfaq Ahmed's celebrated PTV programme of the same name, broadcast from 1998 to 2004. In each episode he spoke for twenty minutes on philosophy, spirituality, science, religion or society, and then took questions from the audience.
What survives on the page is his voice: unhurried, plain-spoken, and built out of stories from his own life rather than abstractions. It is among the most widely read and most quoted works of modern Urdu literature, and remains a book people return to rather than simply finish.
